Loris is located just 35 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach. Loris’s main event is their Bog-Off gathering! An annual festival based on good old fashioned southern cooking! The Bog Off draws huge crowds yearning for a taste of a local specialty…chicken bog!
When residents of Loris aren’t cooking up “good eats” they’re enjoying living amidst some of the fastest growing ‘outskirt’ communities in SC. Prized for beautiful land plots, spacious residential living, and a rapidly growing economy, Loris is quickly becoming the next big thing!
Development of Loris, SC began in the late 1800′s when a railway company built a depot to service their trains and operate a timber company. Similar to Loris’s origin, agriculture has always been a leading source of growth in the Loris area. To date, Loris has become an economic hub in the northernmost part of Horry County. There are approximately 3,000 residents living within Loris’s city limits, with more than 62,000 residents living within a 15 mile radius! Loris is located approximately 20 minutes from the Grand Strand, and about 35 miles from Myrtle Beach!
Loris may be a smaller southern region, but they are home to state-of-the-art health care and fitness facilities sponsored by the Loris Healthcare System. The Loris Commerce Center and four major lending facilities service most of the areas financial and commerce needs.
U.S. Hwy 701 and Hwy 9 serve the city of Loris, with the Carolina Southern Railroad passing through downtown Loris in route to Conway, SC. Loris has a City Council, City Hall, and a central fire department near the heart of the city. Loris has their own police department which is backed by the Horry County Police when needed.
Loris’s friendly, “hometown” atmosphere is perhaps the biggest reason why people are drawn to the Loris community.
